Helping our farmers set their businesses up for success.
The Lion Dairy Pride program offers our dairy farmers a unique way to measure, evaluate and improve key areas of sustainability on their farm.
In November 2016 we began rolling out the Lion Dairy Pride Program, which was 18 months in the making and provides our dairy farmers with trusted practical information and advice and is also a one-stop-shop for essential industry resources.
Developed by the Lion Dairy & Drinks Farm Services team together with industry experts, the program includes a website that provides our dairy farmers with trusted practical information and advice and is also a one-stop-shop for essential industry resources. The program also includes an easy-to-use assessment tool that guides our farmers through five key areas of the dairy farm business system: milk quality, animal welfare, people, community & wellbeing, the environment and business management. There is a strong focus on the employment process as well as safety and wellbeing. And in the environment module, there are tips on monitoring and managing essential environmental elements.
Lion partners with almost 390 dairy farmers either directly or through the Dairy Farmers Milk Cooperative (DFMC) across Australia, many of them family businesses and all committed to raising healthy herds.
“This is about providing our dairy farmers with the tools and templates they need to help manage day-to-day operations of their farms. It is to help them set their business up for success through business plans, performance measures, budgets and planning for the future.” Peter West, Managing Director, Lion Dairy & Drinks
Grants for a greener farm
In partnership with Landcare Australia we are proud to offer the Lion Dairy Pride Landcare Grants scheme. We proudly offer our dairy farmers the opportunity to apply for a grant that provides invaluable help in improving on-farm environmental efficiency, sustainability and profitability. Those selected for a grant are provided with the tools and resources to address ongoing environmental challenges.
Now in its third year, the Lion Dairy Pride Landcare Grants program help our farmers grow productivity and profitability while improving the sustainability of their farms. Projects can focus on reducing energy consumption, enhancing nutrient management or increasing biodiversity. To date, 52 farmers have received grants of up to $10,000 each under the program.
The program accepts grant applications from both Lion direct farmers as well as suppliers of the Dairy Farmer Milk Cooperative (DFMC).
“Thanks to Lion Landcare, we have not only improved water quality in our creeks but have also made our farm more self-efficient.” Bryant McEvilly, Lion Dairy Farmer NSW
“Thanks to the installation of a VSD (variable speed drive) vacuum pump there has been an immediate energy reduction with an estimation of up to 40% of original power usage saved. Our dairy runs for a substantial time every day so this will had a huge positive impact.” Oscar Negus, Lion Dairy Farmer WA
