XXXX GOLD – has been part of the Milton skyline in Brisbane’s inner suburbs for nearly 141 years.

Over recent weeks and months, its iconic structure has undergone an important transformation in the name of sustainability –  a $2 million project to install solar power panels on the roof of the brewery.

A far cry from the famous big yellow wheel which faithfully supplied DC power to the brewery for over half a century, and still takes pride of place at 185 Milton Road, the new solar panels will well and truly bring the historic Brisbane landmark into the 21st century.

More than 2,200 solar panels have been installed on the roof of the 140-year-old site, which will generate the equivalent amount of electricity consumed by 150 large homes in Brisbane in a year. These panels will reduce the site’s annual carbon emissions by about 1260 tonnes.

The latest investment in the brewery is on top pf more than $5million already spent on brewery improvements over the past decade. This project is part of Lion’s commitment to reduce our carbon emissions by 30% by 2025 from a 2015 baseline and part of our ongoing commitment to being a good neighbour to the many residents and businesses that call Milton home.
